Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the "DD Waiver," and do you accept it?
The Developmental Disability (DD) Waiver is a Virginia program that provides funding for various services to help individuals live in the community. Guardian Hands is a licensed provider for individuals who have been authorized for DD Waiver services through the state.
2. How do I know if my loved one is eligible for your services?
Generally, our residents are adults (18+) with a primary diagnosis of a developmental disability who have been cleared for residential services by their local Community Services Board (CSB). If you aren’t sure where you stand, we recommend contacting your local Support Coordinator.
3. What is the difference between your In-Home Support and Independent Living Supports (ILS)?
- In-Home Support Services focus on providing direct skill-building, health monitoring, and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) right from the individual’s primary residence, offering a continuous continuum of care alongside day programming.
- Independent Living Supports (ILS), on the other hand, are geared toward adults who already live in their own homes or apartments and do not require continuous care. Instead, this service relies on periodic, drop-in check-ins focused on teaching essential independent skills like financial management, grocery shopping, and home maintenance.
4. How do I start the referral process?
The first step is to speak with your CSB Support Coordinator. They will send a "Referral Packet" to us for review. Once we receive the packet, our clinical team will evaluate if our environment is the right fit for the individual's unique needs and goals.
